First Day of School 2008-2009

Our family has many traditions that occur on the first day of school. Every year since Dillon started school he has taken a picture by the mailbox on his first day. we have also included Micah in these pictures even though he is not in school, yet. (Good thing...Mommy still has some more time to prepare for this. :)

Here is one up close...Micah is still trying to wake up. :)

Also when I was growing up my family always went out to eat on the first day of school to talk about our day and our teachers. Now that many of us are educators the tradition continues. In between Dillon getting out of school and the start of his seminary class the Hill family had our Annual First Day of School Dinner at no other place, but Pappasitos...Yummm! (Thanks Dad for the gift card.)

My boys...

Here are our attempts at a family picture.

Memory Tag

This sounds fun!

Here's how it works:

1. Add a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you. I can't wait to see what people remember.

I tag everyone reading my Blog!

A New Appreciation

I have a new appreciation for cake decorators. I have been working very hard the last couple of days on a trial run for Micah's 1st birthday cake.

This was my first time I have tried my have at cake decorating. I used marshmallow fondant and I wanted to see how it might turn out. I liked the way the fondant looks on the cake, but I don't think I like the design I came up with. It looks like a blue peppermint and I need to work on word spacing. Oh well. Now we just have to see how it is going to taste. I am not so sure about it, but I think that Dillon and I will try some tomorrow. I'll let you know how it turns out. Wish us luck!

A day that will go down in Micah's baby book. This is the day that he took his first steps! Three to be exact. I will try to get a picture of this soon. I would have tried today, but three was all that we got out of him. :)

Good Distractions

Today was quite a busy day! Since Dillon is out of town, my friends are keeping me preoccupied with things to do... Really, just lovin' on us while Dillon is away. This morning I went with my friend Rachael to to grocery store to find out more about The Grocery Game. We have tried it once before, but I really didn't do too well at it. We don't get the paper so getting a paper and THEN cutting out coupons was too much to do. However, I wanted to see how this game really worked and see if it was worth it for our family to join in on the "Game." Thanks, Rach for showing me the ropes! I don't know if this will work for our budget, but we had a lot of fun hanging out with you and John Michael.

On my way home from the store I received a phone call from Cheryl. (She and her husband, Jack are our class "shepherds" for our ABF...AKA - Sunday school class.) She graciously offered to watch Micah for the afternoon so I could get a chunk of my work hours in today. So Micah and I returned home, he ate lunch, took a nap and then it was off to Ms. Cheryl's for fun times! On the way there I pick up my friend Vonda and we stopped to get ice cream on the way back home. Yummmmmmm, CONNIE'S!!!!

After I picked up Micah (hours later) we returned home and our friends Roy and Claire come over and Roy cut our grass since Dillon was out of town. (What GREAT friends we have!) And since Jeremy was out with the guys for the night Vonda came over, too. Girl time was fun. It was great to catch up with you, ladies! I will see you again for game night on Thursday! Can't wait!

Dillon, Micah and I miss you, but we have wonderful friends who are taking care of us in so many ways! Don't forget to "Have fun, do good, make A's!" I love you!!!!!

Another First

Today was Dillon's first Father's Day. It was a little biter sweet because he left this afternoon to go to Dallas for a week long seminary class. It was so sweet to get to pray with him and Micah before he left. My husband is such an amazing and loving father. I love you, dear!

I didn't get to take any pictures today on the actual day :(, but I will do so when Dillon returns and we can celebrate Micah's wonderful Daddy!

Spider-Boy, Spider-Boy

Around our house my husband loves to make up songs to anything and everything. He also loves Spider-Man. Hence, the reason our son looks like he is stuck to the wall. Dillon was singing "Spider-Boy, Spider-Boy..." while this photo op. was going on.

Tagged!!!

Ok, so I have started this post many times in my head! Really it is not THAT hard to come up with 7 interesting things to share with you about myself, but alas it has taken me this long because of interesting fact #1. So please read below to find out more about quirky little me.

1. I don't like to write. Really I am terrified of writing! It is so bad that one night as Dillon was talking to me about a paper he was having to write for one classes this semester I started crying! Now I know some of you are saying...HORMONES! But seriously, I despise it THAT much. Just the thought of writing a paper turns me into a basket case.
That being said, when I started this blog I told Dillon that I hope this would be an outlet for me to get more comfortable with writing. (Although to remedy that I have to keep up with the blog. Oh, well. :) )

2. I was Drum Major of my high school band. Yes, I was a band nerd! But I loved it! It was such a wonderful opportunity to learn about leadership and how to lead with a servant heart.

3. I never thought that I would get married. In fact until I had a ring on my finger, I would not plan ANYTHING about my wedding. Not even my colors. (Just ask my Mother-in-law.)

4. My first car was a 1981 Buick LeSabre. We called it "The Ark."

(Disclaimer: This was not our car. (My sister and I "shared" a car.) Ours was maroon.)

5. I will NOT eat apricots or pork chops. Let's just say that when I was little I remember a very long evening involving the two items mentioned above and LOTS of mustard. :p

6. When I was little I was a climber. I climbed EVERYTHING! One time I even flung (is that a word?!?) my shoe up on our roof just so I could go get it. Needless to say , I didn't tell my mom about this until I was MUCH older...like when I was in college.

7. It is hard for me to spend money on things even when I need them. Take clothes, for instance. Growing up I would go out to buy clothes for school or whatever and never return home with a single item. This fact still haunts me today. In fact, I usually have to take some with me to go shopping just so they will MAKE me buy something.

Ok, so these are the first random/interesting things that came to mind as I was writing this post. This is just a sampling of me.

Step right up, step right up

Take a close look. It is there, folks! Micah's new tooth (his front left one to be exact)!!! Our little boy is growing up. Oh, this is so wonderful and sad at the same time. :)

Givin' it all he has!

Micah has been working on this crawling thing for the last few weeks. Here is a picture of our sweet boy givin' it all he has. :)

It is so funny to watch!! When he gets his arms up underneath him, his belly just stays flat on the ground. When he trys to remedy this, his knees will come up under him and his precious little face will just plant into the carpet. Sad, but charming. :) Anyways, he has working so hard and today here is what he started doing.

The Other Day

The other day Dillon came into the room and proclaimed (and I quote), "My neck is this big around." And this is what he looked like...

I love my silly husband!!!

I Try

I am truly trying to keep up with this blog. With that said, here are some pictures of our wonderful baby and even one of a pot. "A POT?!?" you ask. Well, I had the greatest intentions the other night. Dillon and I went out on a date to the Melting Pot. (YAY for coupons!) OH MY GOODNESS! We had such a fabulous time. Micah went to spend some quality time at Nonnie and Pawpaw's house and Dillon and I were off... Our reservations (how fancy) were for 8:15 pm and we didn't leave until almost 11 pm. Ya'll, we spent the entire time eating! Granted it was a four course meal and we had to cook our own food at our table, but it was wonderful taking our time eating and just getting to talk without having to worry about Micah getting bored or hungry or tired...the list could go on. It was just us. Spending quality time together!

Anyways, the reason I have a picture of a pot. I was trying to document the evening in pictures, but alas, I took one picture and got so entrenched in having time with my husband that I totally forgot to take any more pictures. Oh well. It was the thought that counts, right?

I think it looks so artistic. For a pot at least. :)

Ok, and now on to the REAL reason you visit the blog...

"I love to swing!"

I LOVE this one! What a happy baby boy!

Make new friends and keep the old...

While I was in San Antonio I ran into one of my childhood friends, Lauren. She was such a blessing to me. Dillon had just left the convention to return to Houston for one of his seminary classes and I was left in San Antonio with Micah and no car. Well, I was feeling a little sorry for myself, after eating lunch by myself (Yes, Micah was there but he didn't want to have any meaningful conversations he just wanted his FOOD!...heheheee) and no one to really pal around with, when who did I see but Lauren's husband, Peter, and then around the corner came Lauren! Lauren walked around with us for a while, but most importantly she gave me a small break to go watch a concert and she took care of Micah. Lauren, those 20 minutes of "me" time were such a gift. Thank you!!!!!

While Lauren was playing with Micah she took some WONDERFUL pictures of our little boy. Check out her blog and see what an awesome and creative photographer she is. I know you will enjoy these pictures. Thank you Lauren!

Jabber, Jabber, Jabber

A few days ago I put Micah down for his nap and had gone to shower and was starting to fix my hair when he just started jabbering to himself. Well, I thought it was odd because usually after I put him down he would talk to himself for a minute or two and then turn his head to the side, suck on his thumb and it was off to the "Land of Nod." However, on this particular day he was talking to himself 15 minutes after I put him down. So I decided to finish messing with my hair and then I would go check on him. (After all he was not crying or fussing, so I figured he was fine.) Here is what I found when I entered the room...

As I looked at him and giggled (silently, of course) I thought to myself, "Oh, this was why he was making all that racket. He was trying to figure out how to get back over to his back." Well, he obviously got plum tuckered out trying to figure out what to do and just decided to sleep in that position. (He has ALWAYS slept on his back.) How sweet!

Here is what he looked like when Daddy got home and we peeked in on him so that Daddy could see the sweetness...

And here is the funniest picture of the whole afternoon...

Look close. He has drool dripping from his cheek. Hehehehe...He is such a "drool box!"

New Trick!

While in San Antonio Micah learned a new trick. Enjoy!

Sicko :(

Well, our little guy has been feeling under the weather. And this time he didn't just have a cold. He has a full blown virus. Poor sick baby! On Monday as we were coming home from Gaga and Pawpaw the Great's house Micah felt a little warm to me and I was going to check his temperature when we arrived at my parent's house (we go over there on nights that Dillon has class). Well, as soon as I stepped in the door Micah THREW-UP! And boy was I surprised at my reaction! I thought for sure when this day came I would be grossed out at the sight of vomit, but I wasn't. I went into "Mommy Mode." I handed Micah to my dad, went and got the rest of his stuff out of the car (his diaper bag - so I could change him), and went to clean him off and change his clothes. When all that was accomplished I went back into the other room to hand Micah off so I could clean up the "mess" he had made in the entry way, only to find out that my dad had already cleaned up. Now that is love, Pawpaw!!!

Anyway, Micah is feeling much better. (After a trip to the doctor where they swabbed his throat, and poked and prodded him. He even had to have blood drawn...He was a good boy even though is was no fun.)

Here are a couple of fun pictures of Micah and his Pawpaw a couple of days before Christmas.

Adventure - Just the Beginning!

We just arrived home from San Antonio. And what a crazy, fun, tiring trip it was. Dillon and I were brave and decided to bring the baby along for Micah's first TMEA - Texas Music Educators Association from Wednesday until Saturday. (He is just not old enough to be without his Mommy.)

Now I will say that I think that we...ummm, I... over packed a bit. But I wanted to make sure that we had anything and everything that we needed while we were away. We even took the exersaucer since it folds and stores so nicely. Anyways, we piled all our stuff high in my Gaga and Pawpaw the Great's (my grandma and grandpa) van we were borrowing (a Nissan Quest - We still have it at the moment and I am considering NOT giving it back. SOOOOOOO nice!) and took off...2 hours later than we had planned. Once we made it to San Antonio we went to visit my youth pastor, Donnie Anthony, at the church where he is serving to let him and his family meet Micah. I love my sweet boy. He is so happy and pretty much comfortable in anyone's arms. He let Donnie carry him all around, steal his sugar and show him off! And then it was off to the hotel as it was getting late and WAY past Micah's bedtime.

Once we got there we checked in and Dillon lugged ALL of our stuff while I got Micah ready for bed and waited for the crib (that I reserved online when booking and reminded them about when we checked in). Well, 30 minutes later the crib still had not arrived so Dillon called down to ask about it. Well, come to find out they did not have any cribs available. I was pretty frustrated, I must admit. After all I had reserved this crib 3 weeks ago when I made the reservation. How could they not have it when I arrived. Oh well, this is where my wonderful, glorious over packing comes in handy. I brought the pack 'n play for just this circumstance. Thank goodness! So we set that up and put Micah down for the night. And guess what!?!? He slept all night long...even in a new place and sharing a room with Mommy and Daddy. Thank you, Lord for such an adaptable baby!

After all the lights were out and Micah was put down for the night. Dillon and I collapsed in bed for a good night rest.

Stay tuned. There is more to come and hopefully I will learn how to get videos from my video camera to my computer so that you can enjoy some of the sights and sounds of our adventure in SA.

Ewwwww...COOL!

Look what we saw on our way home from the park today.

Apparently, it is called a solpugid or so Dillon thinks. I am not so sure I agree. I'm thinking a giant earwig. EWWWWWWWW!!! GROSS!
What do you think?

Ahhhh...the power of the internet.

Family Time

So...This semester in Seminary Dillon's professor has assigned them two MANDATORY family times. And one of those mandatory times must be completed by tomorrow. Which means we got to have a concentrated time with each other and Micah this evening. WAY FUN!!!!!

We went to the park (in our new stroller we got yesterday) and Micah got to swing for the first time. He seemed to really like it!

Then we went to Lupe Tortilla's...one of the best, if not THE best Mexican food of all time! And Micah not to use his new seat cover that I made. (See above. Yes, I made it...my mom supervised). :) Dillon and I enjoyed the famous fajitas...YUMMMMMM... and Micah was SUCH a good boy! He was mezmerized by his surroundings. :)

And then it was off to Connie's for some amazing custard. Now if you have never had custard I must say you are definitely missing something. This is no ordinary ice cream. And though it may *look* like something from Dairy Queen, I can assure you it is NOT! Again, I say YUMMMMMM...

Hello?...Hello???

tap...tap...tap

It this thing on?

Check. One. Two.

Oh! Hello there!

After much thought (I rarely do anything spur of the moment), I have decided that now would be a good time to start my blog. Hopefully this will be a good way to keep in touch with family and friends about the happenings around our house. I hope you enjoy!
